Since my book is all about Light, and since we are all lighting up our homes and workplaces and communities with candles and colored lights, in December I’m sharing another excerpt or two from my book that seem perfect for celebrating the light.  

That gives a little gift to those who don’t wish to buy the book, feels dear and familiar to those who have purchased and enjoyed it, and lets me focus more on the holiday and a little less on my writing right now.  Perfect.

The Promise of the Light

Light teases greater love, more gratitude, more kindness, peace, beauty, wisdom into our ways of thinking and reacting to our lives. That’s what it does.  That is the promise of the Light.

When there is a problem at work, we can focus on Presence more than problem, allowing it to soften us and others, and create unexpected solutions in the situation.  Doing this, I am always amazed at how solutions find their way into things.  When there are difficulties with friends or family, staying centered on Presence – as opposed to the present – is what stops the tendency to loop, to say things we regret, or to get attached to the story.  

The power of our own Light helps us speak more authentically even when very difficult.  It facilitates coherence, making it easier to communicate, to care, to work things through in us and with others.  When troubled, turning first to the Light within leads to a better way.  All these things are part of promise of the Light.

The years of my WalkAbout were filled with rich moments of learning and connection.  Sometimes I was so overcome by Presence that I was lifted beyond explaining.  Other times I was amazed at what developed when I allowed it to lead.  

The promise of the Light was always there, bringing out the best in me, the best in every situation, making more possible than expected.  This did not prevent challenges from being part of my life, but it entirely changed my passage through them.

As I came to know the truth of Self I was changed in countless beautiful ways, leaving behind patterns and pains that had troubled me most of my life.  The grace of the Light within us is an unparalleled life coach.  Thinking of how it has blessed and transformed me, I feel inexpressible gratitude.  

There is, of course, much more I could share about Light and Presence and about the delightful, mysterious, challenging, profound process of my own personal enlighting.  The purpose of this book, however, is not to thoroughly explain or write a detailed how-to, nor is it to share my entire journey.  

That would make for a very long book.  And a less useful one to you.  Instead, I hope to point to what is there, discussing the terrain and giving a few road signs.  I hope to confirm what you already know, initiate ideas and questions, inspire further exploration, and to encourage you along your way.  Your own path is similar to mine in some ways, and can therefore be aided by my story.  But it is a path uniquely your own and it is opening before you, inclusive of all you need for your journey.  The Presence within is ignited by interest and awareness.  Given those, Light reveals how to proceed and brings what is needed next.
