secrets of enlightenmentDearest Infinite Light,

In English we tend to use the brief form, OM, of the Sanskrit mantra AUM. In fact there is no word or symbol “OM” and using it in this way loses much of the truth and power AUM conveys.

AUM is a mystical Sanskrit sound, a sacred sound and mantra and a spiritual symbol. It’s a visual and vocal vibration that conveys the essence of the ultimate reality, consciousness or Atma (Soul, or Self within.)

AUM is the symbol and sound used in Sanskrit and Hindi. Muslims use Amin, Christians, Amen. Some Tibetan chants use Hum, giving the ‘ah’ sound a breathier beginning. It is said by some that Sanskrit contains the purest form and esoteric knowledge of the ancient sound.

To know the true secret of AUM is to finally realize who you truly are. AUM denotes the cosmic power behind all creating, the vibration by which God makes manifest. AUM signifies the eternal that enlivens all things. Using AUM as a chant or mantra calls this power forward in you, magnifying it.

Let me give you an explanation of the A-U-M to better understand the use and potential of it. When sounding it aloud, the ‘A’ is a more guttural ah sound. Thus, it has more resonance. Rather than making the sound in the middle of your mouth like you generally do for the word ‘amen,’ make this ‘ah’ sound at the back of the mouth where the throat begins. Gently tighten those upper throat muscles as you say it. See how it brings more vibration into the sound?

As you move to the ‘U’ sound, ‘ah’ transitions to ‘oo’ – as in ‘boo’ – bringing your lips to a slightly open pucker or kiss position. As you do so, it changes naturally sounding like ah-ow-oh-oo, doesn’t it? Again, notice the resonance that occurs. Play with dropping your jaw at the end of the “oo” sound for more resonance and overtone.

From the pursed ‘oo’ sound bring your lips softly together, but not firmly, as you create the mmm sound. Let your lips buzz slightly with the ‘M’. To do this you bring the mmm sound forward in your mouth, making it more nasal.

Have fun playing with the sounds of AUM, experimenting to see what creates greater resonance and fullness, rather than just loudness.

The sacred word AUM is basic, comprehensive, all-inclusive and infinite. It is a universe of sound that includes all names and forms.

In one of my old journals, I found the following message sharing esoteric knowledge and speaking to the true power of AUM. In my journal entry it wasn’t clear whether this is a inspired message that came to me or if I wrote it down from another source that I didn’t name. But whatever it’s source, it’s an inspiring message for us all today.

“O inquirer after truth, AUM is the fullness of God. Those who are wise attain their objective sustained by AUM. One who contemplates the beginning phase of the sound – ‘Ah’ – contemplates God in the wakeful phase, stimulating creation. One who meditates upon ‘U,’ the intermediate phase of the sound, obtains glimpses of the interior world of God, Spirit within. Meditating on the final sound of AUM – the ‘mmm’ – one sees God as her or himself, becoming illumined and is free immediately, merging with the benevolence of the pure light of their being, realizing the truth of who they are: god waking into form, spirit filled and illuminating this from their countenance. They know the truth voiced: ‘You are forever and forever.’

AUM is the focal point of the emanations of pure light, brought together through vibration and mystical sound, to show all humanity their origin in Divinity. AUM is the symbol of humanity in its pristine originating purity.

Chanting AUM, it is as if repeating ‘Let there be Light, greater Light, greater Light,’ since chanting AUM increases, magnifies, and calls forth the light of ones own being.

Chanting AUM, it is as if to use tangible and readable symbols formed of pure gold light that say, ‘I come from the great cosmos of light that draws my particles to me and into every particle is projected light which is eternal light, Light which is of the great Principle of Life, the emanations of all Life and I declare unto all, ‘I AM that light, this is myself brought into form.”

Here are a few things of interest to know about chanting AUM. Because it is the frequency of Source, know that when chanted, AUM resonates into and through all people, places and things in the vicinity in an expanded way and with greater ease than other frequencies might. As well, when the sound goes forth, an imprint is created of this frequency, or symbol, in physical matter that lingers long after the chanting ceases to be audible. The frequency of AUM travels farther and in a very fluid way, because it’s vehicle is the liquid light of the Cosmos. It ripples thus beyond time, space and dimension. And finally, when embed with the positive and clear intentions of those chanting, AUM becomes a very effective carrier for amplified intention.

Last week, we pondered the question, “Who am I?” AUM is the answer: “I AM the original design of god made flesh through light and sound.” AUM is the vibration through which god makes manifest. What is made manifest? God in form. You. So your physical being is made further manifest as is the Source in you. Through the sound of AUM, you grow in light, balance, and love. AUM is a portal that connects you to the fullness of the truth and light of your being.

Using AUM, you align yourself with this great and benevolent coherence within you. It takes only a few minutes. That’s a handy tool for these times, right?

So hum,
