We often bow our heads in prayer or use our hands to give blessing to our food before eating. And often people eat things they deem not very healthy, saying with a laugh, “I just eat what I want and bless it.” Perhaps we would do well to wonder, “How’s that’s really working for us?”

A gifted energy healer I know used to ask clients to bless some food to share with him. During their blessing he observed the energy being transmitted (if any) and any energetic change in the food.

After the blessing he used kinesiology and dowsing to determine the effectiveness of their blessing. Rarely was the blessing very effective in terms of increasing the energetic frequency of the food.

Next he asked them to visualize a sun disk just above their heads and bless the food again, bringing real intention and awareness of energy to their act. He then measured again, seeing a great improvement in the energy of the food.

I also recall a book written by a medical doctor in the late-90’s, I believe. He was taught by a Guru to energize food on a trip to India. He returned home to study the veracity of blessing, or energizing, food.

Among other means, he used Kirlian photography to study the energy transmitted to food. Kirlian photography is a collection of photographic techniques used to capture the phenomenon of electrical coronal discharges.

He was so impressed by what he discovered in numerous studies that he wrote an excellent book about the veracity of blessing. I have the book but it’s in my few belongings still in storage in the Seattle area, so I apologize for not having specifics for you.

Today, however, I’m simply suggesting you can gain by wondering how effective your food blessing might be. When we are curious about things like this, it often leads to improvements and innovations.

Both the energy healer and the author I mentioned emphasized the same three guidelines for better blessing. Both suggested concentrated attention and intention. Both emphasized visualizing light or energy flowing to the food. And both suggested holding the energy or prayer at least one minute.

I want to add one more suggestion to our ruminations today, a fourth way to improve blessings. I suggest you eat gratitude. Recently, during a period of general meditation and contemplation, I was given the following stream of thought.

Food is energy. Energy is light
Your focus is for prime energy intake, optimum energy intake to support enhanced life force. This can greatly vivify physical matter.

Remember you are a carrier of Source which is Life Force. Life force is Source within you. Thus, in actuality you are life force, and it is pouring in and thru you constantly.

Source energy is the light within you, which is life force.
It displays as light and energy. Life force, your light, is a matter of source energy and rises and falls. It erodes due to many things at this time. Blessing is one way to maintain and enhance it. When you offer energy as blessing on a meal, you literally offer your life force to enhance the food.

Your light, source energy, life force has many attributes. It has the attribute of love, of wonder, of harmony, of gratitude.

It rises and falls along the course of it’s attributes.

Blessing food is done, in part, to enhance your intake of that which is life force. An easy way to do this is to generate the feeling – the energy – of gratitude and transmit that attribute of life force to your food.

Thus, you partake of gratitude as you eat and in partaking of gratitude, you are partaking of Source light with your food. You can be equally effective by creating and partaking of the energy of Love, or Harmony etc, as you eat.

The blessing of food allows you to nourish yourself with the light and energy of Source.

In this way you access your own sun energy and eat it. This is not all, for in this you place blessing not only into your food but also into your food chain and to all humans participating in bringing it to your table, and into the animal and plant kingdom and the mother from whom it comes.

So you see, you are a powerful and vital part of the distribution of Source energy – through the light in you – into your own body through your food and into the your greater system. Do you see?

To summarize, Four ways to create more effective blessing of your food:

  1. Visualize light or energy flowing from you into the food.
  2. Bring concentrated attention and formulated intention.
  3. Hold the energy or prayer at least one minute.
  4. Create the feeling or energy of gratitude, or of love or other attributes of Source and send this energy into the food in your intention and blessing.

You can use words or your hands, or both, as a way of transmitting your blessing. Play with this over the holidays to come. Take your time, work with real attention as well as intention, and have fun with it. You’ll be able to tell the difference.
