4 Fabulous Antidotes to These Times
Article Highlights:
- Something VERY serendipitous today!

Something very unusual happened today. Something so against the odds that I’m still boggled by it.
Most of you know I have a set of writings I’ve done for clients for personal sessions over the years. At one point, I cut and pasted about 60 of them on individual numbered index cards.
I decided to draw one for us today in answer to, “What’s the antidote for the difficulties of these times?” I was wondering about the best way to bring hope and balance to the fear and concerns that beset us now.
When I started to shuffle the “deck,” a funny eruption of cards somehow happened. I fumbled and they exploded across the floor. All of them were face down except four.
I noted what those 4 were but I was looking for just one so I decided to draw again. I placed the 4 in different parts of the deck and shuffled all well. Once more I lost my grasp and when trying to grab them, 4 cards fell out.
You guessed it: they were the same 4 cards. What are the chances? The odds are soOoo against that happening. I realized that together they must be the message. And reading them, it was clear each is related to the others in a unique way – that’s also very unlikely for a random event, isn’t it?
So we have a 4-part antidote to staying balanced in discouraging times. Reading them together, I’m struck by the simple goodness and ease they remind us is possible. Together they provide a true antidote to fears and concerns rising on a daily basis. The way through is more simple than it might seem.
Because there were 4 cards, this is a bit longer blog. Perhaps scan for the one that speaks most to you right now. Or copy and print this out. Read it over the next few days with your morning coffee.
Today, I printed and read them w my afternoon tea. I’ve been feeling less robust mentally and emotionally since my illness, listless, having trouble finding the joy in life again after being down so long. My state of mind was a little down. (more…)
Friendship pt 7 – BFF’s: Making Friends with You!

How I treat best friends- Who’s my BFF?
We can’t talk about friends without thinking about BFF’s. Who’s your best friend forever? I have a small circle of friends who fit this acronym. They are generally the long-term keepers. No doubt things are similar for you.
There’s one person though that you may not have on the list – YOU. Or maybe you are on your list, but you get on the “outs” with yourself from time to time. And just like when things are bumpy with your friends, this hurts.
When we are critical and unkind to ourselves, it hurts, even if we don’t notice. Just like when you’re criticizing someone else and you don’t notice at the time how bad it makes you feel. I give my friends a lot of latitude. They’re not perfect and sometimes stuff happens and they act even a little less perfect. It’s ok, I handle it. They give me that latitude too. As long as there’s good communication over-all, the friendship doesn’t waver.
I trust my friends a lot too. If I think – or hear from someone else – that they’ve done something offensive to me, I talk to them about it first. I give them the benefit of the doubt because I know who they are. And I talk things over with them if I hurt them. And if I’m angry, they are the first to know, not the last.
These are the ways I treat my BFF’s, those people in my inner most circle. It’s also how I want to be treated of course. And this includes by me! I don’t overly make myself worry or get in my face unkindly. I know I care, I know I’ll correct. Trust, compassion, lee-way for struggles or mistakes, honest and caring communication and constancy are my hallmarks for friendship, self-friendship included. (more…)

Actually, I think I know what to call you but you might be tempted to call me what’s-her-name, haha. Or to say, “*#@!? I’m so confused about her name!”
I don’t blame you. And doing sessions recently, it became apparent it’s time to clarify. So – What should you call me?
I changed my name in 2018 and I changed it legally. That means I no longer answer to any version of my former name at all, as no such person exists legally. So you can rule that out. That part is simple to clarify.
Also, I’ve only had one name since then: Mayet MaHulili Leilani. First name, middle name, last name. Just like most of you. But after that is where it got confused. (more…)
