Ask and You Shall Receive? What Does That Really Mean?

Article Highlights:

  • Is asking the point?
  • Where is the effortless to be found?

askDear Receiver,

It is often said: You have to ask to receive. This refers to a common biblical verse frequently quoted as, Ask and you shall receive. The verse is Matthew 7:7. But it doesn’t really say you have to ask to receive. Nor does it even say, Ask and you shall receive.

What the scripture actually says is, Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.

Hmmm. It seems we tend to place the emphasis on the necessity of asking, of seeking, of knocking… on the verb, the doing. In the first instance – Ask and you shall receive – that’s where we’ve given emphasis in our misquoting, right? On asking. In the scripture the emphasis seems to be on something being given. A gift. Very different.

Let’s begin with the word ask, though. Asking implies wanting something, asking for something, petitioning someone for something. If we take asking as the point, that’s what we are implying.

There is something important about being able to ask for what we want of course, but I don’t think that’s what this scripture is about. I doubt it’s about wanting something and needing to ask for it… I think this biblical wisdom might be suggesting something much more profound and wondrous.

I think it’s saying: It’s all there for you. Whatever you ask for is there. Whatever you seek, it is there. It’s ALL there. It’s all yours already.

Thinking along this line recently, I happened upon a message I received some years ago that I shared in a group meeting. It seems to fit perfectly with my recent rumination about asking and receiving. Here it is for your consideration.
Blessings on your day,

Receiving it All

Beloved Ones,

Ask and you shall receive, you say. And what do you wish to receive? More love, you might say, or money, or a better car or job or health.

You have learned to make affirmations for such things, you have studiously tried to improve at manifesting. You have delved into why you are creating lack, you have questioned your ability to receive, you have kept the faith and kept trying. You have worked hard and sincerely at this. You have tried, basically, to become a good attractor – to attract things of all kinds into your life more effortlessly, more accurately, more successfully.

If we may, let us focus this matter a little differently for you all. What does receiving mean to the spiritual pilgrim? The point of it all is not about how to get things, though this can be part of receiving. What is it that you are being suggested to receive, dear ones?

The aim is not to receive this thing or that thing needed in any moment. It’s not about things. The aim is to receive the Fullness that is All Things. From the Heart of Love, from the Source of all Things. This Source is beaming to you – to everyone and everything – in every moment. It is beaming the Source of all Creation, the great formulating energy of life itself.

The action needed is to more consciously receive it All. It is all there for you and always there for you. The busy busy of your daily lives causes you to forget this. To forget what you are receiving constantly. You are receiving Fullness and not just the singular wants or needs -the things – you have need of, or desire for, in this or that moment. You are receiving it All. All that you desire is in what you are already receiving.

The action is found in consciously enjoying what is always coming – freely given – from the Source of all things. Rather than limiting it to your current need. It is in receiving the All that is being constantly given, that your life and its needs and dreams and things are funded. In this is the strength you need, the wisdom you need. In it is the joy, the purpose you desire. There, also, is your peace.

So we suggest to you that you have by this time in your life gained all to be gained from your efforts at manifesting. We suggest that now you more simply just begin to relax and receive the Fullness given to you in your every breath of every day of your life, knowing all else follows this.

How shall you do this? Simply take a moment, right now. Breath in, with the awareness of the Fullness given in this breath you take. Or with your attention on your physical and energetic bodies let yourself be aware of the Fullness coming into your system every moment. It is a feast of Fullness prepared as a banquet for you. Take it in.

In the Fullness given you, every asker is already a receiver. Every seeker is already a finder. Everyone knocks on a door already open to them. It is given. Do you see?

Standing In the Doorway to Love – Integration Through Self-Knowledge and Self-Love

Dear One,

doorway to loveWhat is the doorway to Love? It is mastery of self-knowledge and the process of integration. Self-honesty and self-honoring are required to attain true self-knowledge and to reclaim the separated self. This self-knowledge and self-integration is necessary for transformation and Self-actualization. We speak here of the process of self-discovery in which one awakens to the splendor of the deepest essence of who they are.
As this happens, one learns not to wait to become perfect but to accept ALL that one discovers about one’s self. This is true self-knowing and it leads to an intimacy with one’s self that brings great inner security.

It is a process of becoming more and more willing to love everything that’s observed about oneself in honest self-discovery. This includes the so called bad as well as that judged to be good. Learning this lesson of Love brings great peace into one’s life and leads to realizing the truth of the Love and Light of one’s being.

Knower of Self is the impulse of the spiritual pioneer. First, known thyself, then to thine own self be true. We are all in a continual process of self-discovery, experiencing more of who we are.

An important benefit of living in this way is that – as we pay attention to who we are, loving what we meet – we begin to meet others who more truly and clearly mirror who we are and who we are not.

To progress in this, the magnetic part of our natures – the yin, or feminine quality – can be called upon to aid us – it brings loving compassion. And it compels commitment to trusting experiences that reveal self-knowledge.

It is time to manifest more of who we are. It is crucial now that we demonstrate self-trust and not abandon ourselves in judgment. It is also time to recognize how much we have grown and to celebrate our lives. Every moment of each life is what has brought each of us to the point of readiness we are at. We can celebrate this, dear ones!

True self-knowledge is the fire of divine light combined with the passion of elevated emotions. Together they are pure alchemy, creating a combustion of self-illumination that integrates the splintered, wounded aspects of self.

Truth paired with self-love leads us to reclaim those parts of ourselves forfeited to others. We also then can integrate those splintered identities separated in pain and wounding. And we regain those parts of ourselves and our lives that we have suppressed.

We – all of us – are ready now to face the next stages of our own self-knowledge for it leads to self-realization. This happens naturally when bringing our simple honesty and self-kindness into our times of reflection. We learn about who we truly are and are not, what we really want and do not. And then we can gently embrace the changes that rise up to meet us.

May loving kindness and compassion be our guides, this is my prayer for us today.

Deepening Into the Heart of Love
A Message From the Heart of Love

The Holy Grail is the sacred chalice established in the heart that overflows with Love. At the heart of love is openness, trust, and clarity. You also find emotional integrity there and a capacity to express Love as a radiance of Light full of nurture and Love’s wisdom. The Heart of Love is the source of self-nurture and nurture of others. The Heart of Love is generative in its nature and gives freely, but without either giving too much or being too self-protective.

The Heart of Love is the perfect mirror for the Soul of another. It does not push away nor does it chase after the experience of love. It chooses wisely, heals self and others masterfully and rises to the challenge and opportunity to open and reopen in response to life.

The Heart of Love is a great communicator of Love both in words and beyond words. It expresses self-love from deep within including an appreciation of the personality, the ego and the physical body. The Heart of Love returns always to emotional balance, emotional integrity, balanced nurture and trust, expressing an openhearted nature.

Within the Heart of Love, one is always in movement toward balance, balance being, always, the return to Love. Love dwells in you, you are this Love and you are Love’s certain return Home. This is what is meant by deepening into the Heart of Love. Welcome, dear one, to the Heart of Love.

It might be fun to go on Google Images and find an image that represents this place in you that is the portal to the Heart of Love. Keep it in front of you in some way: print it and place it on your altar or cut images from a magazine and create your own montage with a glue stick.

The Heart of Love within is a powerful Ally. It is inseparable from the most powerful force in the universe – that which is God. And it lives in your own heart. Call on it daily.

In Love and from Love,

~ 💜 Mayet
