  • Is asking the point?
  • Where is the effortless to be found?

askDear Receiver,

It is often said: You have to ask to receive. This refers to a common biblical verse frequently quoted as, Ask and you shall receive. The verse is Matthew 7:7. But it doesn’t really say you have to ask to receive. Nor does it even say, Ask and you shall receive.

What the scripture actually says is, Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.

Hmmm. It seems we tend to place the emphasis on the necessity of asking, of seeking, of knocking… on the verb, the doing. In the first instance – Ask and you shall receive – that’s where we’ve given emphasis in our misquoting, right? On asking. In the scripture the emphasis seems to be on something being given. A gift. Very different.

Let’s begin with the word ask, though. Asking implies wanting something, asking for something, petitioning someone for something. If we take asking as the point, that’s what we are implying.

There is something important about being able to ask for what we want of course, but I don’t think that’s what this scripture is about. I doubt it’s about wanting something and needing to ask for it… I think this biblical wisdom might be suggesting something much more profound and wondrous.

I think it’s saying: It’s all there for you. Whatever you ask for is there. Whatever you seek, it is there. It’s ALL there. It’s all yours already.

Thinking along this line recently, I happened upon a message I received some years ago that I shared in a group meeting. It seems to fit perfectly with my recent rumination about asking and receiving. Here it is for your consideration.
Blessings on your day,

Receiving it All

Beloved Ones,

Ask and you shall receive, you say. And what do you wish to receive? More love, you might say, or money, or a better car or job or health.

You have learned to make affirmations for such things, you have studiously tried to improve at manifesting. You have delved into why you are creating lack, you have questioned your ability to receive, you have kept the faith and kept trying. You have worked hard and sincerely at this. You have tried, basically, to become a good attractor – to attract things of all kinds into your life more effortlessly, more accurately, more successfully.

If we may, let us focus this matter a little differently for you all. What does receiving mean to the spiritual pilgrim? The point of it all is not about how to get things, though this can be part of receiving. What is it that you are being suggested to receive, dear ones?

The aim is not to receive this thing or that thing needed in any moment. It’s not about things. The aim is to receive the Fullness that is All Things. From the Heart of Love, from the Source of all Things. This Source is beaming to you – to everyone and everything – in every moment. It is beaming the Source of all Creation, the great formulating energy of life itself.

The action needed is to more consciously receive it All. It is all there for you and always there for you. The busy busy of your daily lives causes you to forget this. To forget what you are receiving constantly. You are receiving Fullness and not just the singular wants or needs -the things – you have need of, or desire for, in this or that moment. You are receiving it All. All that you desire is in what you are already receiving.

The action is found in consciously enjoying what is always coming – freely given – from the Source of all things. Rather than limiting it to your current need. It is in receiving the All that is being constantly given, that your life and its needs and dreams and things are funded. In this is the strength you need, the wisdom you need. In it is the joy, the purpose you desire. There, also, is your peace.

So we suggest to you that you have by this time in your life gained all to be gained from your efforts at manifesting. We suggest that now you more simply just begin to relax and receive the Fullness given to you in your every breath of every day of your life, knowing all else follows this.

How shall you do this? Simply take a moment, right now. Breath in, with the awareness of the Fullness given in this breath you take. Or with your attention on your physical and energetic bodies let yourself be aware of the Fullness coming into your system every moment. It is a feast of Fullness prepared as a banquet for you. Take it in.

In the Fullness given you, every asker is already a receiver. Every seeker is already a finder. Everyone knocks on a door already open to them. It is given. Do you see?
